Notes > Ethiopia's new producers

Nice piece from DazedDigital on the rise of Ethiopia's new music producers. An interesting scene where traditional folk still dominates the charts thanks to mainstream pop icon Tedi Afro and the father of ethio-jazz Mulatu Astatke who is still widely respected thanks to '60s and '70s reissues; however the new generation primarily in Addis Ababa, are blending what they know and what they are influenced by. This generation are mixing Bristol dub step with West Coast Brainfeeder sounds known as Ethiopian Electronic, have a listen to one of of the sounds by Mic Tek here.
